Lent: The Women

The Women…

I think of the women
Who followed the Christ,
Giving all they possessed,
Disdaining the price.

Left family and other,
Days of long treks,
Called as disciples,
Learned not to look back.

Enthralled with the Savior,
His teachings, His trust,
Made whole by His treatment,
To follow- a must.

Yet what were their thoughts,
When they perceived He would leave?
Where would they go?
To whom would they cleave?

Well, these were strong women,
Who had already died
To self and to culture;
They had nothing to hide.

So they carried on just as before,
Ready to serve,
Ready to die;
Ready to re-meet their Lord.

Luke 8:1-3
“Soon afterwards he went on through cities and villages, proclaiming and bringing the good news of the kingdom of God. The twelve were with him, as well as some women who had been cured of evil spirits and infirmities.: Mary, called Magdalene, from whom seven demons were cast out, and Joanna, the wife of Herod’s steward Chuza, and Susanna, and many others, who provided for them out of their resources.”
