Advent Poetry: Suddenly (#7: First Week)

Four hundred years of silence,
After Micah prophesied,
“To the temple suddenly will come
The One in whom you take delight.”

Then the silence broke in splendor,
Templed Zechariah bowed aghast;
God’s Gabriel suddenly appeared,
Spelled out priest’s upcoming task:

“In silence do your waiting,
No voice to be heard,
Except the Spirit’s consolation,
‘Til Voice in Wilderness is birthed.”

Oh, God-filled suddenlys—
Am I willing in these days,
To be jolted from all sameness,
Welcome new birth in all my ways?
