The 5 Pillars of God’s Love for Women – Pillar #1: God Created You as Woman

“In the beginning God...” are beautiful and profound words given undoubtedly to Moses on Mount Sinai, to remind the Israelites, as they came out of Egyptian slavery, that not a human pharaoh but the Holy God, Elohim, was their only and final Master and Lord. Though Elohim is plural, it does not signify a plurality of gods, but rather the One Who possesses all the divine attributes and power. The beginning chapters of Genesis describe a holy God –the complete opposite of the plethora of gods worshiped by the Egyptians and all other nations that would surround the Israelites. If you read ancient literature, you’ll find that the other gods are arbitrary, with their bevy of goddesses and despicable immorality, using humans as their pawns. These gods filled humans’ lives with terror and demanded continual appeasement—often in the form of child sacrifices.
In that pristine beginning, the first woman was intentionally formed. We all stand in awe of her. We all, in some small part, can relate to her. Yet there has never been, nor will there ever be, another woman like Eve. Her name means “mother of all living” or “life giver”. She was perfect in form, spirit, intelligence and emotions—fashioned by the Creator’s own hands.
Yet I doubt that Eve could fully relate to the women who followed her, for she never knew a mother’s womb, the love of a mother, or the guidance of a father. No sibling rivalry, no aunts or uncles, no cousins. No childhood friends, no childhood. No female to explain the functions of her body or how to ready herself for the wedding night. No Lamaze classes or midwife beside her as she birthed. No experienced woman to give suggestions as she stared down at her first naked, crying baby boy. Humanly speaking, except for Adam, her husband, she was utterly alone.
But Eve was created in love by God and so are you and I. Here are the signs of God’s love in your creation:
     1. Intentionally created: God created you “on purpose”. No matter the circumstances surrounding your birth, God created YOU and breathed life into YOU! King David writes in Psalm 139:13—“For it was You who formed my inward parts; You knit me together in my mother’s womb.” And v. 15 “My frame was not hidden from You, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes beheld my unformed substance…” How beautiful! There is no mistake in God’s designing you; He longed for you to be on this earth to love and shepherd you; for His pleasure, to have communion with specially designed you.
     2. Created in God’s image: You did not just evolve, nor did you progress from apes of long ago. You, my human friend, were made by the living, loving God in God’s own image! What a wonder to be celebrated! Genesis 1:26-28 speaks to this: “Then God said, “Let us make humankind (adam) in our image, according to our likeness; and let them have dominion…So God created humankind (adam) in his image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. God blessed them and said to them…” You and I were not made in man’s image, as some would like to teach. We were made equally in the image of our Maker, God. God is a holy mystery…”Let us…” The Trinity is a holy mystery–God, at the very beginning: Father, Son and Holy Spirit in community- as we, male and female, are to be. God is not male nor is God female. God, three in one, in community, encompasses within the Godhead both maleness and femaleness. So God speaks and creates two from one (humankind: adam) in order to show the image of God: male and female.
     3. Uniquely designed: There is no one on this earth exactly like you, my friend! No one! Some may say you look “just like so-and-so” or you sound “just like-so-and so”, but you are NOT “so-and-so”; you are YOU! You are a designer item, one of a kind! God loves your design; after all, God designed you!! Again, in Psalm 139: 14, David writes: “I praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works (including you and me!); that I know very well.” Do you know very well that you are “wonderfully made”? God thinks so, and so should you and I! I say this while recognizing there is always room for improvement; times when we bow before the cross of Jesus Christ and ask forgiveness, times when we must make amends to relationships that surround us. BUT that does not deny the fact that God made YOU “a wonderful work” of His!
     4. Created for love: 1 John 4:19 says, “We love God because He first loved us.” You and I must continue to remember this: God first loved us. You were made in love by the God who loves you. You were made so that you could return His love, be in contact and communion with Him through receiving the Lord Jesus Christ as your Savior, receiving the mighty gift of His Holy Spirit, sitting in His presence, reading His Word (which He has left to us in love) and walking with Him (this One who never leaves you) every day. You, my dear sister, were created in love, by the loving will and hands of Almighty God! One “benefit” from being created intentionally by God is found in Psalm 103:4 “…Who (God) crowns you with steadfast love and mercy…” Isn’t that comforting? God’s intention toward you is one of love, steadfast, unfailing love which He crowns you with every moment…You are created in and for love!
I hope you delight in this first PILLAR of God’s love toward you, my dear sister and friend! You were intentionally created, made in the image of God, uniquely designed, and created for love.
     Reflect:
Consider these above four points; Reread the Scriptures cited; Write a few sentences about how the points make you feel toward your Creator, your family, the culture in
which you live. How might you live differently, believing God’s delight in you?
